Strengthening the Capacity of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly (Viet Nam)

The Economic Committee of the National Assembly (ECNA) of Viet Nam is mandated to review drafts of legislation related to economic management, business activity and monetary affairs (including banking), and to supervise the implementation of state plans for socioeconomic development. The Committee receives technical support from the Economic Department of the Office of the National Assembly (EDNA). Building research capacity, especially among young staff members of EDNA, is critical to improving the quality of research results generated for the Economic Committee. This project aims to provide the Committee with high-quality information and research-based evidence by upgrading the research skills of EDNA staff through training and mentoring; by enhancing the ability of Committee members and selected members of the National Assembly to understand and utilize research results; and by strengthening linkages between the Committee and the broader economic research community. The last will be achieved through study tours to Canada, Singapore and Malaysia.
