A new report launched by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) portrays a burgeoning youth-owned business landscape in Africa, as millions of young Africans faced with bleak employment prospects turn to set up their own businesses.
They are the familiar images of global trade talks: streets turned into battle zones, conference centres into fortresses. Entrenched positions on both sides of the barricades have effectively stifled public debate on trade liberalization.
Governments can’t stop populations from aging nor can they ignore the future economic impact of changing demographics. With the right information, however, they can increase the benefits and offset the risks.
