Using ICT to Increase Income and Productivity in the Urban Informal Economy : Panama City

This project seeks to answer the following question. How can information and communication technology (ICT) support urban workers in the informal sector in such a way that they can benefit from the global economy instead of being marginalized by it?

Researchers from the Technological University of Panama (UTP) and the Specialized University of the Americas (UDELAS) will assess the current use of ICTs by informal sector workers (vendors, women working from home, etc.) in the urban community of Calidonia, Panama City; deliver an appropriate training program for informal sector workers in ICT; design a replicable model for improving the performance of informal economic activities in Panama and the region in general.
