TTI Phase 2 Institutional Support: Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research
This funding will help strengthen the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research's (ISSER) role as a credible public policy institution in Ghana by enhancing its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research.
About the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research
ISSER is a semi-autonomous research institute, created in 1969. It is located within the Faculty of Social Studies at the University of Ghana. Its activities promote Ghana and Africa's socio-economic development.
ISSER's main areas of research include macroeconomic policy, household economics, institutional economics, rural institutions, population, health, environment, gender, technology, and spatial development. It receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI).
Research that influences policy development
TTI is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy.
This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions. This will help them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For ISSER, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement.
Improved performance and policy engagement
Through this support over the next 4.5 years, ISSER is expected to
-serve as a best practices model for younger, smaller, and less experienced policy-oriented research organizations in the region
-contribute to knowledge through quality publications in peer-reviewed journals
-integrate gender into its programming activities, research, and policy recommendations
-actively engage with policymakers and other relevant stakeholders on important development issues
-build junior researchers' skills and knowledge
-improve and strengthen its communication and outreach capacity
