TTI Phase 2 Institutional Support: Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment

This funding will help strengthen the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment's (ACODE) role as a credible public policy institution in Uganda by enhancing its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research.

About the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment
ACODE is an independent public policy, research, and advocacy think tank with headquarters in Kampala, Uganda. Through evidence-based policy research and analysis, ACODE aims to create knowledge to support pro-people national and regional development policies and to expand the range of policy options available for confronting public policy problems. ACODE receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI).

Sound research, policy influence
TTI is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy.

This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions. This will help them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For ACODE, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement.

Transformation that leads to an enhanced reputation
Through this support over the next 4.5 years, ACODE is expected to
-complete its transformation to a research organization with a multidisciplinary research staff
-undertake rigorous peer-certified research that informs policies in Uganda
-complete the shift from advocacy organization to think tank
-engage academics, think tank researchers, and post-doctoral fellows in its research activities and quality assurance process
-publish peer-reviewed books based on ACODE's working paper series
-increase the number of civil society organizations that benefit from ACODE's capacity building assistance
-secure financial support to build its office complex
-become renowned in the region for its research, policy analysis, and advocacy on transboundary issues, such as security and natural resources
-implement procedures and technology to promote the relevance and impact of its research among policymakers and citizens
-monitor and evaluate its performance and impact
