TTI ARO Opportunity Fund: IPS

This funding will allow the Think Tank Initiative grantee, the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS), to undertake quality, policy-oriented labour migration research. The research will focus on some of the issues identified by the National Human Resources and Employment Policy for Sri Lanka.

Advancing Sri Lanka's understanding of labour migration

Labour migration plays an important role in Sri Lanka's economy. It also influences the country's development. As a result, IPS initiated research into migration in 2008. To date, IPS has completed seven studies and reports on migration.

IPS has also organized three international conferences with the goal of disseminating research and sharing information and experiences with the public and with other regional institutions in South Asia. As a result of these initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare has invited IPS to participate in the National Advisory Committee on Labour Migration.

The project will:

  • enhance research skills;
  • increase awareness and knowledge about IPS' expertise on migration issues to inform and influence policy;
  • facilitate future research and fieldwork; and
  • strengthen local and international networks to increase the benefits of migration.
