IDRC is partnering with the non-profit organization Silatech to establish an Arab Youth Policy Research Initiative. Silatech works to create jobs and expand economic opportunities for young people throughout the Arab world. Building a youth policy research base The project builds the foundation for this important initiative. The project team will set up sub-regional hubs that will: -stimulate research that offers solutions to young people's problems; -create an enabling environment for young policy-oriented researchers to develop and share their research; -provide training and mentorship for young researchers; and -promote informed policies that take into account youth perspectives. Research hubs in three Arab regions The project will pilot up to three sub-regional hubs. The first will be a Maghreb hub located at the Tunisian Business School. A team of young Tunisian researchers will lead it. Up to two other hubs will be identified through an open call for proposals. In addition to setting up sub-regional hubs, the project will also: -bring together youth-led and youth-oriented researchers and research institutions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to develop a shared research agenda; -set up a virtual community of practice, designed to foster information exchange and intra-regional collaboration; -convene a regional policy workshop at the end of two years to provide a platform for young researchers to share their research results and to engage in policy dialogue. Giving young people a voice The ultimate aim of the initiative is to give voice and visibility to youth-led efforts in policy processes. This will help realize shared economic growth that is inclusive of youth. The project will do so by fostering direct engagement between young researchers and policymakers at the local, national, and regional levels.
