Startup - Philippines Community Electronic Centres Academy

The Philippines telecentre movement has gathered momentum in recent years, mainly due to the Philippines Community e-Centres Network (PhilCeCNet) developed with financial and technical support from IDRC's telecentre.org under project 104285. Over 800 telecentres and a number of government departments, private sector organizations and nongovernmental organizations are part of PhilCeCNet. The network's roadmap for 2008-2010 envisions the establishment of telecentres in every municipality and an academy for building capacity among telecentre managers.

This project will support a number of activities involved in setting up such an academy, such as formulating operational guidelines, competency standards and an accreditation program. The team will also pilot a CeC training course using the train-the-trainers approach, form a mentors' network and engage in social marketing, advocacy and promotion of the academy.
