Research and Capacity Building for Communities affected by Mining (Global)

Mining Watch Canada is an organization with extensive experience worldwide in research, capacity building and dialogue on mining and its contribution to development, particularly at the community level. Over the last three years the work of Mining Watch Canada - in partnership with Southern community-based organizations - has contributed to an evolving dialogue in Canada and internationally on the impacts and benefits of mining activity. It is therefore an optimal time for a substantive dialogue about the role of mining in local-level development. Mining Watch Canada believes that this dialogue should be supported by research that incorporates the perspectives of communities in the South that are affected by the activities of mining companies. This grant will allow Mining Watch Canada to undertake and publish applied research on issues related to mining and development. The research results will be shared with policymakers, development practitioners, and Canadian and Southern partners.
