Promoting Debates on Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction in Eastern Africa through Strengthening the Links between Research and the Media

Policy researchers have a key role to play in insuring that economic growth and poverty reduction plans are responsive to the needs and interests of poor people. They can do so first by providing evidenced-based policy proposals reflecting a range of views, and second, by promoting such proposals, enriched through stakeholder debate, at the official level. This grant will allow Panos London, to strengthen the ability of independent policy research bodies and the media in East Africa (mainly, Kenya and Tanzania) to interact for the purpose of promoting inclusive public debate and decision-making on economic growth and poverty reduction. Media outlets will be encouraged to combine more specialist coverage with accessible formats so as to bring complex policy issues to a wider public.
