Productive Strategies Call for Proposals

Research undertaken in an IDRC-supported scoping study (103259) indicates that value chain analysis merits serious attention as a means to enhance the flow of benefits from the global economy to poor rural people. To date, value chain analysis has rarely included disaggregated poverty analysis, nor examined the environmental impact of making value chains more pro-poor. This grant will support two calls for proposals to address this gap. The first call will result in the selection of one project that incorporates poverty and environmental concerns into value chain analysis. The results of this project will be made available publicly and used to inform the second call for proposals, which will support four research projects on the topic, "Value Chain Analysis and the Rural Poor in the context of Disadvantaged Regions." The project is expected to identify ways in which poor rural households can benefit through more effective, equitable and sustainable engagement in the global economy.
