Partnership : Information and Communication Technology for Development in Africa and Asia

The United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID) has entered into a partnership with IDRC's Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) program area in support of research that improves livelihood opportunities, enhances social service delivery and empowers citizens in Africa and Asia. A total of five million pounds sterling (over CA$10 million) will be disbursed over five years, with 70% going to Acacia (communities and the information society in Africa) and 30% to PAN (Pan Asia Networking). The funds will be used to supplement existing Acacia and PAN programming as approved by the IDRC Board of Governors on 31 March 2006 except that in the case of PAN funding will focus on South Asia, a regional priority for DFID.
