OSILAC : Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean - Phase III

IDRC has provided two phases of support to OSILAC, the Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean (101849 and 102830). OSILAC promotes the importance of keeping statistics on information and communication technology (ICT) and provides technical assistance to official statistics institutions doing so. This grant will allow OSILAC to analyze the data compiled with a view to better understanding the information society, its determinants and its consequences, especially the relationship between ICT use and innovation. OSILAC will maintain and expand the online information system; monitor national policies and projects related to the regional action plan; and increase the number of countries and indicators involved in the project. OSILAC will also continue to ensure the quality and harmonization of indicators by means of methodological guides and training sessions. The project is expected to deepen understanding of the role of ICT in development.
