Minority Women Negotiating Citizenship : Action Research Project

Inter-community disturbances can have both disempowering and empowering effects on women and gender relations. The disempowering effects are well documented but the empowering effects often go unnoticed. These occur both during and immediately after the disturbance, and usually take the form of women assuming traditionally male-dominated roles.

This project will compile a public record of women's empowerment in post-violent situations, highlight the transformation of victims into agents, and strengthen activities that build the voice and agency of Muslim women especially the poor.
