Integrated Strategy for Water Pollution Reduction in Yorito (Honduras)

Problems of wastewater and solid waste management are chronic throughout Honduras. In the context of recently passed decentralization reforms, a community centered waste management project is timely. The project will involve data collection on water resources, water quality, pollution points and water demand, plus a valuation of water services. The findings will be analyzed with local authorities and communities, and inform the design of a wastewater and solid waste management system. An innovative aspect of the project is that a corps of high school students will be trained to conduct much of the data collection and analysis.
