Institutional Support : Institute for Research on Political Economy in Bénin (IREEP)

The Institut de recherche empirique en économie politique (IREEP) is an independent nonprofit organization established in 2004 with a view to contributing to the education of the next generation of teachers and researchers in political economy in Bénin and West Africa. IREEP has successfully integrated academic training and research activities. IREEP has been involved in a number of research projects spanning a wide range of topics (democracy, governance, education, health, energy). Although IREEP is a relatively young institution, it has tremendous potential to contribute to socioeconomic policymaking in Bénin given the ambition of its founder and the dynamism of its personnel. It is imperative, however, that the Institute develop a research agenda focused on its core mission, which should be clearly stated in a strategic plan. This grant from the Think Tank Initiative will allow IREEP to adopt specific organizational development goals and establish a rigorous monitoring system to assess progress toward those goals.
