Institutional Support : Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI-Ethiopia)

The Government of Ethiopia is increasingly using research results when formulating policy, and more research-oriented professionals are joining the government as policymakers. The Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI) was established in 1999 and became operational in 2003 as a semi-autonomous organization accountable to the Office of the Prime Minister,. The executive director of EDRI is also the chief economic advisor to the Prime Minister. EDRI has lagged behind in the area of organizational performance, and will use this grant from IDRC's Think Tank Initiative (TTI) to do the following: build its research capacity through doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships and a mentorship program; carry out a comprehensive organizational assessment; put in place a monitoring and evaluation system; and disseminate research outputs to key stakeholders.
