IDRC-GDN: A Strengthened Partnership for Research Capacity Building

This project provides core funding to the Global Development Network (GDN) over three years. GDN supports social science researchers in developing and transition countries. Its core mission is to enhance policy-relevant research capacity by building a critical mass of researchers who can produce evidence-based research to influence public policy. The focus of this project will be to expand support for research capacity in low-income environments. GDN uses regional competitions to achieve its mandate through collaborative and cross-disciplinary research. Over the coming years, GDN will intensify its efforts with collaboration in low-income countries with limited research capacity. The program will provide grants on a competitive basis to local organizations committed to promoting research capacity in their regions. They must also have the skills to do so. To date, GDN has provided grants and technical support to almost 3,000 researchers. Its 13 annual conferences have included over 6,000 participants from more than 100 countries, and brought together junior researchers with accomplished international scholars.
