ICT Enabled Disaster Communications for Vulnerable Caribbean Communities
ICT Enabled Disaster Communications for Vulnerable Caribbean Communities
Recent events in the Caribbean have highlighted the inadequacy of regional and national disaster preparedness. Notably lacking are early warning systems, and ways of disseminating accurate and timely data on storm development and progress to potential victims. This project will examine how information and communication technology (ICT) can be used to improve early warning prior to and during the onset of Caribbean cyclones. Researchers will investigate how timely, specific and relevant information exchanges delivered in appropriate formats and through appropriate channels might positively affect community preparedness, thereby reducing loss of life and mitigating the economic impact of such events.
