Establishing the Prerequisites for Randomized Trials of HIV Preventive Interventions in Bénin

This grant will allow the Université d'Abomey-Calavi in partnership with the Centre hospitalier affilié universitaire de Québec (Canada) to assure that Bénin is prepared for future HIV prevention interventions. As recommended by the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise, the project aims to strengthen existing research capacity by enabling two students from Bénin to complete their doctorates in Québec (University of Laval), by maintaining the research unit on HIV prevention (UREPIV) within Abomey-Calavi, which serves as a support and coordination infrastructure for researchers and actors in the field, and by following up and monitoring a cohort of sex workers in Cotonou, an essential element in AIDS prevention research.
