Ecosystem Approaches to Human Health Graduate Training Awards

IDRC's Ecosystem Approaches to Human Health (Ecohealth) program initiative began offering Graduate Training Awards in 1997. In 2004, Ecohealth began devolving the awards to the emerging regional communities of practice.

This year, awards will be offered through the University of Bénin (West Africa) and the Instituto de Salud Pública de Mexico (Latin America). This short competition will ensure that students registered in Canadian universities are able to participate by offering up to five awards. Each grant will consist of CA $15 000 for field research and up to CA $4 000 for attending a conference to disseminate the research results or returning to the location of the fieldwork to present the findings to local stakeholders. The awardees will also participate in interactive distance training in Ecohealth principles and methods.

The theme of this year's competition is Ecohealth Approaches to Preventing and Controlling Communicable Diseases.
