Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) 2008-2010

If national governments are to exercise their role as stewards of the health system in a rapidly globalizing world, they need to prioritize their health and health research needs. The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) works with low- and middle-income countries to fit health priorities with resources through alliances with external research sponsoring agencies.

This grant will allow COHRED to continue its efforts to enable the poorest countries to put in place more effective, equity-oriented health research systems. The project will also see increased decentralization of COHRED to allow for more effective country-based work and to ensure a strong emphasis on country perspectives in the global discourse on health.

The project is expected to result in a series of peer-reviewed studies, manuals and guidelines focusing on elaborating a national health research policy and strengthening human resources for health research.
