Building Research and Communication Capacity for an Open, Fair and Sustainable Networked Society

The Association for Progressive Communication (APC) is repositioning itself in relation to information and communication technology (ICT) policy research.

The Association has identified four thematic areas for further investigation and is interested in extending successful research methods across its global networks.

  • First, in Africa and Latin America APC has adopted an action-research approach to policy advocacy, and intends to extend it to Asia.
  • Second, in Asia APC has drawn up an index to assess the use of ICTs in the domains of administration and polities, and will expand this work to Africa and Latin America.
  • Third, APC will organize a learning forum to consolidate its members' findings in the areas of human rights, privacy, security and cybercrime.
  • Fourth, APC will endeavor to develop and document an approach to policy influence with a view to promoting sustainable use of ICTs.

This grant will support APC's efforts in these areas.
