Because Gender Matters : Strengthening Social and Gender Analysis in ENRM in MENA

Addressing inequality and environmental insecurity in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will require enhanced capacity to conduct social and gender analysis in environment and natural resource management (ENRM) research. This project aims to build capacity in and demonstrate the value added to action-oriented research by social and gender analysis. It will do so by supporting three applied research projects; peer exchange, learning and networking activities; structured discussions between researchers and stakeholders; and the production of dissemination materials. The project is expected to build a strong base of researchers adept at social and gender analysis, to improve the livelihoods of women and men in the study areas, and to persuade researchers, research managers, donors, policymakers and civil society of the critical importance of social and gender research.
