Association of African Universities : Education and Research Networking Unit

The Association of African Universities (AAU), headquartered in Accra, Ghana, is an international nongovernmental organization (NGO) that promotes cooperation between African universities and with the international community. The Association operates a number of programs and services for its members. In collaboration with the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa, AAU has been active in focusing attention on the issue of university bandwidth - the need for access to higher bandwidth at lower cost. At its last general conference (Cape Town, 2005), delegates mandated the AAU Secretariat to assume the role of focal point and clearinghouse in relation to information and communication technology (ICT) issues, and education and research networking in Africa. This grant will finance the establishment of an Education and Research Networking Unit within the AAU to develop projects and mobilize resources in support of ICTs and networking initiatives. The Unit will consist of a Coordinator working under the direct supervision of the Secretary-General.
