Aligning the National S&T Policy with the National Sustainable Development Strategy in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka does not have an official science and technology (S&T) policy. Investments in S&T have so far occurred on an ad-hoc basis. Nevertheless, government and research and development (R&D) institutions have recognized that S&T investments are necessary though not sufficient in themselves to bring about economic and social development. This project will contribute to the development of a national science, technology and innovation policy. The project will comprise a review of a draft science and technology (S&T) policy available from the National Commission of Science and Technology (NASTEC), a desk study and review of challenges, and a national consultation exercise engaging government, S&T agencies, and autonomous research and development institutions. The project is expected to provide input to the draft S&T policy, plus a plan for its implementation and facilitation. Both are likely to be formally endorsed by the government.
