Advancing Evaluation Theory and Practice in South Asia: Community of Evaluators (CoE), Phase II

This Community of Evaluators (CoE) project will build on IDRC-funded work to promote and enhance the quality of the theory and practice of evaluation in South Asia. It will deepen and expand gains made by professional evaluators from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

CoE members include staff of universities, evaluation and research organizations, international NGOs, bilateral and multilateral organizations, and independent evaluators, researchers, and consultants.

Evaluation helps create greater benefit for people and the causes they serve by providing evidence of how and why initiatives work or fail. IDRC supports evaluation field building to strengthen the quality, diversity, and usefulness of that evidence and the processes which generate it. This work gives voice to diverse perspectives, including the less powerful, in defining success and failure in development. It will help strengthen systems that support evidence-based policy development, decision-making, and practice in South Asia.

In this second phase, the CoE will share knowledge on innovations in methods and practice, and provide professional linkages and support to emerging and experienced evaluators and evaluation researchers. It will expose South Asia evaluation experts to new methods, and give them opportunities to
- support one another through peer assist processes;
- lead and attend evaluation methods training; and,
- document and share evaluation practice and theory.

This work will allow the CoE to lay the foundation for longer-term sustainability, and expand its reach and membership, including through virtual evaluation platforms.
