Access to Knowledge Southern Africa : Universities, Open Research and Open Science in the Internet Age

Southern African universities face several constraints to accessing published knowledge (print or digital) for research and teaching. Removing these constraints is essential if universities are to participate effectively in the knowledge economy.

This grant will allow the Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA) and the LINK Centre to create a regional open access network based on an open knowledge charter. Access to Knowledge Southern Africa (A2KSA) will investigate how open access to research could increase the availability of research publications to students and researchers, and promote new approaches to knowledge production and dissemination.
