AUCC Partnership 2009-2011

Since 1978, IDRC has enabled the International Relations Division (IRD) of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) to provide Canadian universities with liaison and information services on international development. This project aims to help AUCC and its membership envision and implement their relations with developing countries in the context of internationalization at Canadian universities. According to the AUCC Statement on Internationalization and Canadian universities, "Universities in Canada have a long tradition of international collaboration. Today, however, internationalization of the university means far more than inter-personal or even inter-institutional cooperation across borders. It is a necessary, vital, and deliberate transformation of how we teach and learn and it is essential to the future quality of higher education in Canada ..." Specifically, the grant will allow IRD-AUCC to undertake a comparative analysis of how other higher education communities are situating North-South relationships within their internationalization strategies; examine how three representative Canadian universities are fostering mutually beneficial North-South partnerships in support of broader internationalization strategies; compile a "promising practices" guide; organize a Leaders' Symposium; and review the AUCC Statement on Internationalization and Canadian Universities.
