The first annual Catalyst 2030 awards were held in March 2021.

In being named a finalist in the category for bilateral and multilateral organizations, IDRC was recognized for promoting growth, reducing poverty, and driving large-scale positive change through an approach that listens to and values contributions from the Global South.

The winner, The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), was announced at a ceremony held March 25, 2021. IDRC was nominated in the category alongside the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and USAID.

“Congratulations to Norad for this well-deserved recognition,” IDRC President Jean Lebel said. “For IDRC, it is a true honour to be a finalist among such esteemed organizations. The way in which the Catalyst 2030 awards have convened so many innovative individuals and organizations working towards the common goal of achieving the SDGs reflects the spirit of collaboration and partnership that is vital to the work we have ahead of us.”

Colombia-based social enterprise Fundación Capital nominated IDRC for the award.

“IDRC and Fundación Capital share a long history of collaboration that exemplifies the power of partnerships,” Lebel said.

Lebel added that in the face of global challenges such as climate change, inequalities, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for innovative solutions has never been greater.

“We know what many of the challenges are,” Lebel said. “They are big and persistent. We need new ideas and new ways of working together to overcome them for today and forever.”
