IDRC is pleased to announce 10 research projects emerging from two calls for proposals, one focusing on West Africa and the other on the Middle East and North Africa.

Issues of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, strengthening data and evidence, and accountable health information systems are priority concerns in these two regions. The 10 research teams will nurture young research leaders, strengthen the body of evidence, and enhance the use of research results in policy and practice.

Each project is receiving up to CA$750,000 of funding over three to four years. The selection criteria included

  • generating and promoting new evidence;
  • ensuring the adoption of a gender and rights-based approach while considering health equity and intervention costs;
  • strengthening research and leadership capacities among emerging and established researchers;
  • supporting on-going exchange and engagement with relevant stakeholders within countries and regionally to enable a strong environment to discuss, develop, and implement policy
