AGRF brings heads of state, agribusiness and financial institutions, NGOs and civil society organizations, donors, and researchers together to develop actionable plans to transform African agriculture and reduce food insecurity across the continent. The Forum has emerged as Africa’s premier platform to discuss and develop concrete plans for achieving a green revolution in Africa.
More than 750 delegates and dignitaries are expected to attend AGRF 2017, “Accelerating Africa’s path to prosperity: Growing inclusive economies and jobs through agriculture”.
Up for discussion are issues of:
- agricultural infrastructure and technology innovation;
- capacity development to support youth and women in agriculture; and
- strengthening input access, regional trade, and value chains.
IDRC will share the Centre’s extensive experience in food security solutions. In a series of panels and talks, the Centre will engage in dialogue with African leaders and policymakers about the importance of research and innovation as part of a broader agricultural transformation in Africa.
IDRC will host a one-day side event, jointly convened with the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development and the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development. The event will develop plans on how research can support the agricultural
transformation of francophone countries in West and Central Africa. IDRC will also be discussing the relationship between food security, development research funding, and gender in two other events:
- AGRF Women in Agriculture Thematic Working Group (IDRC and FAO)
- Women in Agriculture dinner: Next-generation gender strategies for agricultural transformation in Africa
