This guide is intended for people working in research and development. It introduces participatory development communication concepts, discusses the effective two-way communication approaches, and presents a methodology to plan, develop, and evaluate communication strategies to address the following questions:

​The author

Guy Bessette is a senior program specialist for Canada’s International Development Research Centre in the area of environment and natural resource management. Dr Bessette specializes in development communication and participatory development. He holds a doctorate in educational technology and has authored two other books on development communication: Participatory Development Communication: A West African Agenda (IDRC/Southbound 1996) and L'appui au développement communautaire : Une expérience de communication en Afrique rurale de l'Ouest (IDRC/L'Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie 2000).
