Mushrooms, though exotic to Uganda, have become a highly profitable and easy venture for urban farmers. They are easily grown by planting seeds in recycled plastic bags with slits and then stuffed with old soaked cotton. The stuffed plastic bags are hung and stored in a humid environment until maturity. These environments are typically constructed out of old tin sheets, wood planks, or pieces of sewn canvas, and kept moist by evaporating water stored in large clay pots. The mushroom market is still young but mushrooms are becoming more popular as they are integrated into traditional dishes.
