IDRC and its partners have been engaged in the WSIS Preparatory Process from the onset and had a strong presence at the Geneva Summit in December 2003. IDRC organized two workshops at the ICT4D Platform, exhibited projects at the Canadian Pavilion, Webcasted interviews and special coverage from the Summit, and participated in numerous workshops and events to promote digital inclusion in the information society.
- IDRC Workshops
IDRC led two workshops with some of the most respected ICT for Development experts and practitioners from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
- Indigenous Peoples and the Information Society Workshop
A four-day event during which Indigenous peoples were encouraged to build an action program based on concrete partnerships with and between Indigenous peoples, governments, the private sector, and financial institutions.
- Showcasing Best Practices
The topics that IDRC tackled at its exhibition booth at WSIS included telecentres, low-cost connectivity, WiFi, VoIP, ICTs and poverty reduction, and ICTs and health care.
