Prev News 6 of 11 Next
During 2009-2010, the Initiative will be working hard to satisfactorily complete its planned activities, disseminate its results wide and reflect on the way forward. the Initiative will produce a wide range of publications together with partners that will collect, synthesize and share the practical and policy relevant knowledge produced during the course of the project. These publications include a book that analyzes existing knowledge and experience; three research reports on political economy, WDM indicators and food security and climate change; policy briefs, a knowledge map on WDM policies and practices in MENA.

The project will work closely with the Arab Water Council and the Arab Water Academy and will hold a series of WDM training platforms targeting policy-makers and senior government officials that matter the most and influence policy.
  • Three research papers and pertinent policy briefs are set to be produced this year:
    1. Analysis of WDM as an adaptive strategy to the region’s water scarcity challenge in the context of climate change and food security
    2. Indicators and benchmarks of WDM success, which will look at the basics of benchmarking progress in WDM programs using selected key performance indicators and criteria
    3. Political economy of WDM in MENA which will synthesize and present the lessons learned of the regional political economy studies and workshops conducted last year.
  • Launch a knowledge map on WDM policies and practices in MENA.
  • Document, synthesize and extract the learning and knowledge accumulated by the project over the five years lifespan in a book to draw on existing knowledge and experience, collectively analyze these and sets the scene for future action and research in WDM to serve the water policy process in the MENA region.
  • In collaboration with the Arab Water Academy, develop and deliver institutional capacity development modules, which would bring the state-of-the-art knowledge and practice of WDM relevant to the region in an effort to change behaviors and attitudes of the players and stakeholders that matter the most and influence policy.
  • the Initiative will continue to strengthen synergies and partnerships with key national and regional players, such as the AWC and Arab Water Academy (AWA) with international organizations such as IFAD, FAO, USAID, GTZ, GWA, AOAD, Plan Bleu and InWent, with focus on concrete actions to promote WDM at technical, organisational, institutional and policy levels and contribute to project sustainability.
  • During this final year, the Initiative will continue to synthesize and disseminate the results of its funded applied research and pilot projects for maximum impact and assist the teams, if needed, to write-up and publish their work in peer reviewed publications and otherwise.
  • The project will also consult with key partners on how best to cement the the Initiative ‘s network beyond the lifetime of the project.
