Right: The Royal Institute of Management
As well as being one of the largest users of Internet in the country, the Royal Institute of Management is a key training institute and has been actively involved in conducting Internet training programmes. All students and faculty members are offered Internet access through RIM's local area network, which was in the process of getting a permanent connection to DrukNet. The network has about 100 terminals with Internet access and there are further plans to make this available within the Institute's residential areas.
Some of the courses being organised by RIM in conjunction with DrukNet include general awareness programmes, three-day courses in web publishing, and more recently some "train-the-trainer" courses that will allow teachers from other institutions and government departments to train their own staff members in using the Internet. As well as these specifically tailored Internet courses, Rim's own courses, such as the two-year diploma in Information Systems Management, will be updated, explained Karma Nidup, acting head of the Information Management Programme.
"Now with the coming of Internet we have also included Internet education as a part of that particular course, which didn't have it before," he said.
