IDRC has invested in a set of research projects on competition policy since 2002. Support has been oriented to improving research-based evidence useful for the design and implementation of policies to promote and protect competition in developing country markets. The research has paid attention to both domestic and cross-border competition issues, particularly the exposure of developing country economies to anticompetitive practices associated with the liberalization of trade and investment. The GGP program is building on this body of research on competition policy through support to research focussed on the poverty and equity implications of the concentration of market power and anticompetitive practices, with a view to identifying ways of enhancing competition regimes supportive of inclusive growth.
