Abstract

Argentina and Brazil have held several meetings to explore and analyze areas of convergence between the two countries with respect to the various components of the energy sector: electricity, petroleum and gas, nuclear energy, alternative energy (biomass, solar, wind), etc. The aim is to propose actions to deepen both bilateral, and regional and international cooperation. The Brazilian Center of International Relations (CEBRI) and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Washington DC, are holding a conference on Energy Co-operation in the Americas in Rio de Janeiro on 11 December 2006. The conference will serve to launch a book on the same theme, and include a panel on energy policy and energy integration in the Andean countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela). This grant will support the participation of energy experts from the five countries, plus Argentina and Brazil, in the conference. The overall goal is to support a research program on the topic and promote exchange of know-how on energy issues between the countries involved.
