Canadian university researchers have much to offer, and much to learn from, other societies the world over.

For 40 years, Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) has created opportunities for international research collaborations on topics of importance to both Canada and the developing world. To date, it has provided more than $133 million to close to 65 Canadian universities.

Among the outstanding Canadian researchers working with counterparts in the developing world thanks to support from IDRC:

• Amanda Vincent, Canada Research Chair in Marine Conservation at the University of British Columbia, is spearheading remarkable conservation efforts with coastal communities in the Philippines. 
• Drs Slim Haddad and Pierre Fournier of the Université de Montréal have teamed up with researchers in Mali and Burkina Faso to tackle treatment delays in obstetric emergencies. 
• Ron Deibert, director of the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto, has joined forces with researchers in 13 countries in Asia to build a regional network of experts in the field of Internet censorship and surveillance.
