Abstract

To date, all parties to the Inter-Sudanese Peace Talks on the Conflict in Darfur have included women in official negotiating delegations. Women have also participated in preparatory workshops on power sharing, wealth sharing and security arrangements. The initial recommendations for strengthening the participation of women in the Darfur peace process have been presented to the African Union Mediation Commission. This project will respond to three of them. Specifically, the grant will support the services of a senior gender advisor to the African Union Mission in Sudan. It will allow the Gender Expert Support Team to continue building capacity among women delegates and advocating for the inclusion of gender equality provisions in the agreements. It will provide the three technical commissions on power sharing, wealth sharing and security arrangements with policy-relevant engendered research and analysis. And it will explore and identify options for civil society dialogue.
