From Evidence to Action: Canada's IDRC at the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto August 13-18 2006-08-11
Thirty nine million people worldwide are infected with HIV/AIDS – more than the total population of Canada – and most of them live in the developing world. Recognizing the importance of HIV/AIDS as a development issue, Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) was one of the first international donor agencies to fund research on the prevalence and means of transmission of HIV. Research currently supported by IDRC is making good on the XVI International AIDS Conference theme, “Time to Deliver,” whether it’s by determining how best to harness information and communication technologies to support strained healthcare systems, exploring how nurses working on the front lines can make a greater difference, or by casting new light on the complex links between poverty, hunger, and HIV/AIDS. During the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, IDRC and its partners will share experiences in responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
