In 2002, Rory Stewart crossed Afghanistan on foot. In 2003, he was Coalition Deputy Governor in southern Iraq. In 2006, The New York Times called his book about Afghanistan, The Places in Between, “a flat-out masterpiece.”
 
As part of the IDRC Speaker Series, Stewart will be in Ottawa on Wednesday, October 3 to offer unique insights into Afghanistan's democratic development challenges and opportunities.
 
Time and date:  19:00 to 21:00, Wednesday, October 3, 2007
Location: The National Gallery of Canada, 380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa 
 
Copies of Stewart’s books will be available for sale.
 
The lecture is free but seating is limited so please register. 
 
The IDRC Speaker Series, sponsored by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC), features provocative presentations on issues of social justice and international development from speakers with worldwide reputations.

The 2007-2008 series focuses on building democracy in developing countries. Upcoming guests include the former President of Chile, Ricardo Lagos, Kenyan anti-corruption campaigner John Githongo, IDRC President Maureen O'Neil, and a round table of journalists from developing countries.
