CCAA staff and partners participated actively in the 15th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen in December 2009. Researchers Said Hounkponou (IDID-ONG, Benin); Paul Mapfumo (University of Zimbabwe) and Boniface Mbilinyi (Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania) gave presentations on their CCAA supported participatory action research projects during a session organized jointly with the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) Climate Centre on “Negotiating climate information needs for improved humanitarian response and rural livelihoods.” The panel was part of the Development and Climate Days event hosted by IIED. A summary of the Development and Climate Days event is available on the IISD Reporting Services website. CCAA partner Bettina Koelle from INDIGO development and change, South Africa presented as part of a panel on “Community Based Adaptation”. Bettina spoke about INDIGO’s participatory work with Rooibos Farmers in the Northern Cape and showed a clip of a recently released documentary on the topic, which is available on Youtube. See Part 1. See Part 2. AfricaAdapt, the CCAA-supported knowledge sharing initiative, recorded a number of interviews while onsite at COP15 to share African voices and views from Copenhagen. The video interviews (including interviews with CCAA partners Abdellatif Khattabi (École Nationale Forestière d’Ingénieurs, Morocco) and Euster Kibona (Environmental Protection and Management Services, Tanzania) are available on the AfricaAdapt website. In partnership with the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), AfricaAdapt also supported the attendance of three African community radio journalists - Moulaye Touhani, Mali; Benjamine Doamba, Burkina Faso; and Fredrick Mariwa from Kenya. The radio journalists carried out a number of interviews to keep African listeners updated on the progress of negotiations – including an interview with Kenya’s Prime Minister, Raila Odinga on his hopes for a positive outcome. You can listen to the COP 15 interviews on the AMARC website (in English, French, and more). For more information and views on COP 15 outcomes:
