Local solutions for local challenges

For 40 years, IDRC has helped researchers and innovators in the Middle East and North Africa find new ways to improve health, reduce poverty, and promote democracy. We’ve supported more than 800 research activities directed and managed by researchers and institutions in the region.

We opened an office in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1974 and relocated it to Cairo, Egypt, in 1976. Today, this office coordinates our work in the countries and territories of the region. Our efforts in the region focus on social and economic policy, the environment, politics and governance, information and communication technologies, and knowledge creation.
