Women's Rights and Citizenship
Working for a fairer world

IDRC’s Women’s Rights and Citizenship program supports applied research in the field of women’s rights, citizenship, and development. We bring developing-country voices into current debates in the international gender and development field.

Our vision is one of a just world. A world where developing-country women have a sense of self that includes citizenship and entitlement to rights. A place where everyone has equal access to justice and meaningful, democratic decision-making. And a world where there is no gender-based discrimination that prevents people from fully realizing the full range of their rights and freedoms.

As we shift our programming priorities in 2011, the work of the Women’s Rights and Citizenship program will be integrated into the Social and Economic Policy program area, to support a broader commitment to addressing gender and women’s equal participation at all levels of society in all of our program areas.
