What GHRI funds GHRI is part of Canada’s contribution to addressing the world’s most pressing health problems. Our grantees tackle global health priorities, such as maternal and infant health, infectious diseases, and health systems. At the heart of our mission is the goal of building research capacity in developing countries. Our support also gives Canadian researchers access to expertise and experience on an international level. Our focus We fund research in four main areas:
- prevention and control of pandemics and emerging infectious diseases
- prevention and management of chronic diseases
- health policies and systems
- interactions between health, the environment, and development
GHRI supports research that helps:
- find cost-effective ways to address critical health issues, such as neglected diseases, women’s health, and emerging health threats
- develop an action-oriented, coordinated approach to strengthening health systems and policies
- build research capacity so researchers in low- and middle-income countries can continue to find practical solutions to pressing local challenges
- encourage the use of health research findings in policy and practice
- develop links with donor partners to stimulate global health research investment in developing countries
- include Canadians in collaborative research networks and across multiple disciplines
- foster collaboration on global health issues that affect both Canada and the developing world
GHRI increases the research capacity in Canada and developing countries. GHRI also incubates new policy ideas through the research funded and helps shape global health research agendas. Working together, we can assess and fill research gaps, and share knowledge on global health priorities.
A team approach to health research We support research that draws on many disciplines and is often carried out in multiple sites. The activities we support stimulate investment in developing-country health research and help establish learning networks among researchers. As a global health research funder, we promote equal relationships between team members, regardless of their country of origin. |
