Who we fund
We offer awards to graduate students, and researchers in Canada and in developing countries on a variety of subjects related to IDRC priorities. Our aim is to help developing countries and Canada build a critical mass of trained researchers, and to involve a new generation of researchers in international development.
What we fund
We offer several types of fellowships and awards. Most are granted through a competitive process. Our awards include:
- funding graduate thesis research on issues related to sustainable and equitable development
- internships at IDRC to provide researchers at the graduate level with hands-on experience in research program management
- journalism awards to enhance knowledge of international development and international reporting issues
- on-farm research awards to improve cropping systems and knowledge of the relationship between forest resources and the welfare of people in developing countries
- exploring the relationship between Canadian aid, trade, immigration, and diplomatic policy, and international development and the alleviation of global poverty
IDRC also provides funding for a number of awards managed by other institutions. These include the Southern Junior Researchers Awards for developing-country nationals in sub-Saharan Africa and journalism awards for Canadian and developing-country nationals.
Types of awards
We offer a variety of fellowships and awards for students enrolled at Canadian universities and at recognized developing-country universities.
