AIMS’ Neil Turok is this year’s
Massey Lecturer

13/11/2012

Neil Turok, Director of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and founder of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) was named this year’s Massey Lecturer.

In a five-part broadcast on CBC’s national radio show Ideas, Turok explores the history of scientific discovery and the potential for quantum physics to change how we understand the universe. His revolutionary AIMS initiative is mentioned in the lectures. It is also included in the book, The Universe Within: From Quantum to Cosmos, published to complement the prestigious Massey Lecture broadcast.

AIMS brings IDRC and the Government of Canada together with Canadian universities, the private sector, and African governments to give Africa’s most promising students rigorous training in math and science. The goal: to help prepare Africa’s best-and-brightest for advanced degrees and perhaps enable them to become the world’s next Einstein.

IDRC celebrates Neil Turok’s latest honour and is proud to manage the Government of Canada’s $20 million contribution to AIMS.  Together we share a passion for science and its potential to improve lives.
